5th grade students in Mrs. Villarreal’s science class investigated and identified the transfer of energy of various objects in the classroom. In pairs they described the type of energy that occurs in a system. Then they turned and talked to their partner to discuss the different energy transfers that were mentioned in the lesson.

Miss Perez’s class participated in a Math Biliteracy Day activity! Today our Kindergarten students were number detectives. They participated in a math walk around the classroom stations and were able to see and discuss how numbers are the same and different in English and Spanish. These “Metalinguistic Moments” help students bridge the gap between both languages!

Ms. R. Flores’ kindergarten class has been working on a unit about The Five Senses. Students were introduced to two well-known figures who were both deaf and blind but achieved great success in life. They learned a little about the lives of Helen Keller and Ray Charles, discovering how they used their other senses to communicate and accomplish many wonderful things. As part of the lesson, students also explored how to read Braille around the school.
